SEKE 2018

The Twenty-Ninth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (SEKE 2018) will be held at the Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center, Pittsburgh, USA, from July 5 to July 7, 2018. 

The conference aims at bringing together experts in software engineering and knowledge engineering to discuss on relevant results in either software engineering or knowledge engineering or both. Special emphasis will be put on the transference of methods between both domains. The theme this year is big data and software engineering & knowledge engineering. Submission of papers and demos are both welcome.

The best ranked papers from the conference will be selected for a special issue of the International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (IJSEKE) to be published in December 2018 for early dissemination.

Gold Coast is a coastal city in the state of Queensland, 66 km (41 mi) from the state capital Brisbane. With a population of 638,090 (2016), the Gold Coast is the 6th largest city in Australia. It is a major tourist destination with its sunny subtropical climate and has become widely known for its surfing beaches, high-rise dominated skyline, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland. It is also the major film production hub for Queensland. Gold Coast will host the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Gold Coast international airport is located less than 30 minutes by road from the Gold Coast city. It is connected with over 15 flights per day from Melbourne and 25 from Sydney, plus with over 350 direct flights per week to international destinations including Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and China.

The 33rd ACM Symposium on Applied Computing

For the past thirty two years, the ACM Symposium on Applied Computing has been a primary gathering forum for applied computer scientists, computer engineers, software engineers, and application developers from around the world. SAC 2018 is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP) and is hosted by hosted by Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA), Pau, France.


Authors are invited to submit original papers in all areas of experimental computing and application development for the technical program via the various tracks hosted by SAC 2018. Submissions fall into the following categories:

• Original and unpublished research work
• Reports of innovative computing applications in the arts, sciences, engineering, and business areas
• Reports of successful technology transfer to new problem domains
• Reports of industrial experience and demos of new innovative systems

Peer groups with expertise in the tracks focus areas will blindly review submissions. Accepted papers will be published in the annual proceedings and ACM digital library. The Tutorials Program is an integral part of SAC 2018. The organizing committee solicits tutorials that tend to stress state-ofthe-art technologies directly applied to the practitioners’ field. Presenters are invited to submit proposals for tutorials in all areas of experimental computing and application development. Tutorial’s duration is either full-day or half-day. The tutorial proposal should include a brief summary and outline, specific goals and objectives, expected background of the audience, and a biographical sketch of the presenter(s). All tutorial proposals should be directed to the Tutorial Chair. Tutorial submission guidelines will be posted on SAC 2018 Website.

IEEE PerCom – International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications


Conference Overview

IEEE PerCom, now in its sixteenth year, is established as the premier annual scholarly venue in the areas of pervasive computing and communications. Pervasive computing and communications have evolved into highly active areas of research; they have found their way into many current commercial systems due to the tremendous advances in a broad spectrum of technologies and topics including wireless networking, mobile and distributed computing, sensor systems, ambient intelligence, and smart devices.

PerCom 2018 will be held in Athens, the capital city of Greece and one of the most historic cities in Europe. PerCom 2018 will provide a leading edge scholarly forum for researchers, engineers, and students alike to share their state-of-the art research and developmental work in the broad areas of pervasive computing and communications. The conference will feature a diverse mixture of interactive forums: core technical sessions of high-quality cutting-edge research articles; targeted workshops on exciting topics; live demonstrations of pervasive computing in action; insightful keynote speeches; panel discussions from domain experts; and posters of emerging ideas.

Best paper award

  • The best paper will receive the prestigious Mark Weiser Best Paper Award.
  • Papers of particular merit will be considered for a special issue of the Elsevier journal of Pervasive and Mobile Computing (PMC).

Workshops and Affiliated Events

A number of workshops will be held in conjunction with the main conference. Workshop papers will be included and indexed in the IEEE digital libraries (Xplore) along with papers from the main conference. As in the past, PerCom 2018 will also feature a PhD Forum, Work-in-Progress Posters, and Live Demonstrations. 

Call for Papers

Research contributions are solicited in all areas pertinent to pervasive computing and communications, including:

  • Advances in pervasive systems and infrastructures:  middleware systems and services; large-scale data management for pervasive computing; clouds, cloudlets, and fog computing; integrations of smartphones in pervasive experiences; applications of device-to-device coordination.
  • Theories, models, and algorithms:  context modeling and reasoning; adaptive and context-aware computing; activity recognition; programing paradigms; applied machine learning; cognitive computing techniques.
  • Domain-specific challenges and novel applications: urban/mobile crowdsensing & intelligence; pervasive technologies for healthcare; cyber-physical pervasive computing; innovative pervasive computing applications.
  • Intersections of pervasive computing with: social networks; opportunistic networks; Internet of things; sensor networks; RFID systems; big data.
  • New techniques for user-level concerns : participatory and social sensing; trust, security, and privacy; user interface, interaction, and persuasion; social networking and pervasive computing.
  • Technological innovations: architectures, protocols, and technologies for pervasive communications; mobile and wearable computing systems and services; smart devices and intelligent environments; positioning and tracking technologies.

Contributions can be analytical, empirical, technological, methodological, or a combination of these. Papers reporting strong systems engineering contributions backed by solid and appropriate evaluations are strongly encouraged. The impact of the contributions should be demonstrated in the context of pervasive computing and communications. Papers applying known techniques from other fields must clearly demonstrate substantial novelty or pervasive computing impact.

Promovido anualmente pela Sociedade Brasileira de Computação (SBC), o Simpósio Brasileiro de Sistemas Multimídia e Web (WebMedia) é uma excelente oportunidade de intercâmbio científico e técnico entre alunos, pesquisadores e profissionais das áreas de Multimídia, Hipermídia e Web.  Este ano estaremos celebrando a 23ª edição e o WebMedia 2017 será realizado de 17 a 20 de outubro na cidade de Gramado-RS, uma cidade aconchegante e acolhedora de arquitetura europeia no sul do Brasil (conheça mais sobre a cidade de Gramado).

Além disso, teremos também em paralelo o IV Workshop “O futuro da videocolaboração”, promovido pela RNP, que consiste em um fórum aberto para estudar o futuro das aplicações em videocolaboração, nas mais variadas áreas de pesquisa, desenvolvimento e inovação.

A CAPES passa a exigir o ORCID nas submissões, você tem um?

A Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) solicitará, dos candidatos a bolsas e financiamentos de seus programas internacionais, um código de cadastro na ORCID (Open Research and Contributors Identification, ou Identificação Aberta de Pesquisa e Colaboradores).

Gratuito, o número ORCID é um “nome” digital permanente para identificação de pesquisadores. O código tem 16 dígitos e é único para cada pessoa. Essa característica impede ambiguidades na identificação de autores e colaboradores em publicações ou em instituições. Seu funcionamento é semelhante ao Digital Object Identifier (DOI), código para objetos como artigos científicos, teses e dissertações.

A adoção do código é uma tendência mundial das organizações ligadas a pesquisa. Em 2015, um grupo de grandes editoras científicas passou a exigir o código no processo de submissão de artigos científicos. Isso é possível porque o identificador pode ser utilizado para inscrição em processos seletivos e submissão de trabalhos em periódicos acadêmicos em diversas plataformas.

Quem se inscreve na ORCID, além de receber o código, conta com um espaço para construir um perfil de sua produção e sua trajetória profissional, semelhante a um currículo.

Com a adoção do identificador, a CAPES pretende aperfeiçoar requisitos de seleção e a avaliação de resultados dos programas.
“Queremos acompanhar a evolução acadêmica daqueles que recebem apoio financeiro. Por meio do identificador ORCID, conseguimos relacionar pesquisadores a seus trabalhos de modo confiável, de maneira a ter uma ideia mais precisa da eficácia de nossas ações”, explica a diretora de Relações Internacionais da Capes, Concepta Mcmanus.

No entanto, a inscrição no ORCID não vai substituir o Currículo Lattes do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq), que também é exigido nas candidaturas aos programas internacionais da CAPES.

Um monstroNão, um ORCID não é um dos fantásticos animais do mundo da magia que encontramos no filme “Animais Fantásticos e Onde Habitam”. Mas é um objeto ainda extranho e pouco conhecido. Vocês têm CPF, RG e outros códigos de identificação. O CNPq exige o CPF para os CV Lattes, mas o que isto significa no resto do mundo? A desambiguação de nomes de autores é um problema bem conhecido em mineração de dados. Para resolver este problema foi criado o código ORCID que é uma forma de identificar univocamente quem você é para a comunidade científica. Você já tem um? Veja, a seguir, a introdução ao assunto. Logo depois crie seu ORCID. O meu é 0000-0002-9166-8801.

Como pesquisadores e acadêmicos, vocês enfrentam o constante desafio de distinguir suas atividades de pesquisa de outras pessoas com nomes semelhantes. Você precisa ser capaz de anexar de forma fácil e única sua identidade a objetos de pesquisa como conjuntos de dados, equipamentos, artigos, histórias na mídia, citações, experimentos, patentes e cadernos. Conforme você colabora entre disciplinas, instituições e fronteiras, tem de interagir com um crescente número e diversidade de sistemas de informação de pesquisa. Sempre ficar inserindo dados pode levar tempo e muitas vezes é frustrante.

O ORCID é um esforço orientado pela comunidade, aberto e sem fins lucrativos para criar e manter um registro de identificadores únicos de pesquisadores e um método transparente de conectar as atividades e resultados de pesquisas a estes identificadores. O ORCID é único em sua capacidade de alcance interdisciplinar, setores de pesquisa e fronteiras nacionais. É um ponto de encontro que conecta pesquisadores e pesquisa através da inserção de identificadores ORCID nos fluxos de trabalho chave, como manutenção de perfil de pesquisa, envio de manuscritos, solicitação de bolsas e solicitações de patentes.

O ORCID fornece duas funções principais: (1) um registro para obter um identificador único e gerenciar o registro das atividades e (2) APIs que suportam a comunicação e autenticação de sistema a sistema. O ORCID torna seu código disponível sob uma licença de fonte aberta, e irá postar um arquivo de dados públicos anual sob uma renúncia CC0 para baixar grátis.

O Registro ORCID está disponível sem nenhum custo a indivíduos que mantêm um identificador ORCID, gerenciam seu registro de atividades e pesquisam por outros no Registro. As organizações podem se tornar membros para conectar seus registros aos identificadores ORCID, atualizar os registros ORCID, receber atualizações do ORCID e registrar seus colaboradores e alunos para identificadores ORCID.

Os registros ORCID mantêm informações não sensíveis como nome, e-mail, organização e atividades de pesquisa. O ORCID entende a necessidade fundamental dos indivíduos de controlarem como seus dados são compartilhados e fornece ferramentas para gerenciar a privacidade dos dados. Tomamos medidas para proteger suas informações, consistentes com os princípios estabelecidos em nossa Política de Privacidade, que possuem a intenção de estarem em cumprimento com os Princípios Safe Harbor Principles emitidos pelo Departamento de Comércio dos EUA.
